Art post first, then meme!

A redo for Illustration II, we had to pick an atrocious album cover (for music we liked) and try and make a better version of it ourselves.

Another Illust II assignment, to illustrate a segment from the poem "Lies My Mother Told Me". It's bad luck to kill a moth, because they're the spirits of our ancestors and it could be papa coming to give us a visit.

Concepts II final! I expanded on a little "fighting game" idea I had unfinished and underdeveloped between my characters and

Anyone who remembers Jin remembers she was actually a boy for many years. She makes sense to me as a girl, though, and still remains just as terrifying. I've been more free and interested in clothes thanks to Lifestyle class, so this sketch was me figuring out what her general fashion aesthetic is.

Masaru and Ken barely pretending they don't want to have sex. Bitches.

Digimon fanart because I don't want to ever stop. I really really don't.
And now for the meme!
▶ What is the character you've drawn the most? (Can be original or fanart)
Oh christ, I don't know...I do actually mix it up quite a bit, and over time who knows who really got the most spotlight. But Fuchi is a fair guess.
▶ What colour do you most often use?
Red, brown, yellow. I default to warms.
▶ Any colour you are bad at using?
Green, it's an enemy of mine. I've been trying to make peace with it.
▶ When drawing people, where do you start?
I always do a shape sketch first, and always start with the head, which actually is not always the best idea, I should quit that. But I make sure to have the whole pose worked out before adding details.
▶ What is a character only your eraser will love?
Ouh, I don't know if there's a specific character...well, Naso is really hard to draw when I'm in the wrong mood. The fateyes is sometimes very elusive.
▶ Which of your works took the longest time?
An eight foot painting of Fuchi that hopefully someday will be good and mean something more than just a sore on my psyche and my living room.
▶ What techniques do you use when you want to improve in drawing?
Life drawing, drawing, concentrating on weaknesses, experiment with new media, drawing, just draw draw draw.
▶ What do you think of the art of the person who
I want to be like
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
▶ What art tools/media are you good with?
Watercolor.
▶ Art tools/media you are bad at?
Acrylic (ironically?)
▶ What do you think about your own art?
It's going in the direction I want it to, I just need to get better.
▶ Do you consult magazines for your drawings?
No, I can't say I ever have...or does this mean use reference? Because yes, definitely yes, using reference is very good.
▶ What do you like about your art?
It's expressive and entertains people. It also fuels me.
▶ What habits do you have while drawing?
Hunching over too far, listening to music. I end up drawing in all the weirdest places and positions sometimes.
▶ Are you good at drawing faces facing right?
Yeah, it's about the same as drawing faces facing in any other direction.
▶ How frequently do you draw?
Most every day, I get really burnt out after semester ends though and usually take a week or so as a breather.
▶ What do you do when you have artist's block?
It makes me angry. But I usually still draw, everything just comes out pretty crappy until it goes away.
▶ What must you have when you draw?
Somewhere at least relatively comfortable to sit, a steady surface, all my tools in one place. I tend to claim a table and then spread out all over it, tape and rulers and brushes and pencils and pens strewn everywhere.
▶ Do you have a lot of stray lines (messy lineart)?
Oh god I am so fucking sketchy I don't understand people that can do clean drawings they are a mystery to me.
▶ What is drawing to you?
The only thing I could be happy doing.
▶ Your goal from now on
Get my degree in Illustration and illustrate as a career and do as much personal work as I have time for.
▶ Artists you've had influence from?
Too many too many ugh I really can't list them please don't make me.
But I guess Kishimoto is still pretty obviously prominent in the way I draw; Naruto was the huge stylistic catalyst for me actually developing shit, so some of my oldest and least breakable habits come from there.
▶ Artists you like?
Again no I'm sorry please too many.
▶ Which is easier to draw, humans or animals?
HUMANS people are always what I've been more interested in drawing and even the most simple animal anatomy can sometimes confuse me witless. I should really try harder to make up for the lack.
▶ Please tell us the title(s) of your own comic(s)
It doesn't have a title yet, nor is it really a comic since I haven't done any official work for it, but Jin and Devi and those folks will eventually get the story they deserve.
▶ Show us an old picture

DON'T LAUGH IT'S A VERY SERIOUS QUESTION
▶ What is the charm-point of your art?
Color, character, humor? I hope.
▶ What is the first thing you would draw if we're talking about fantasy?
This question confuses me.
▶ Please draw your most beloved character:
I don't know if I have one, nor do I have the energy to do a drawing for this meme, unfortunately.
▶ When thinking of characters is it mostly female? male? or androgynous/no sex?
Male, agh. I'm definitely really heavy on the males.
▶ What did you draw yesterday?
Nothing, but finals have only been over since Thursday; I need time!
▶ What is the best thing to draw?
Facial expressions, body language, kissing, even though it's really hard.
▶ What part of other people's drawings do you notice first?
The way they handle facial expression, whether things look lively and relateable.
▶ Regarding backgrounds, what is your method of making it easier to draw?
Just do the background first. Sketch thumbnails of what you want your whole composition to look like with the figures inside, figure out how close and what sort of angles you want in the frame before you start the actual drawing, then focus on the environment before you detail the characters. It helps me to save the best for last in general; I'll normally detail hands and bodies before filling in faces because I like it best, I'll color clothing and backgrounds before flesh and hair, ect.
▶ What colour coordinations do you like?
Warm colors, I love sunset palettes.
▶ What character did you last draw?
Masaru, I think.
▶ Does your style change easily?
No, it's pretty stubborn, but it'll get better eventually.
▶ What part of drawing do you pay most attention to?
Faces, and hands, recently, since I've really been trying to get better at them.
▶ How do you feel about drawing H pictures?
Yes.
More eloquently, I find indulging myself in explicit material to my own tastes and in a style of art I can actually respond to has always been some of the most rewarding personal gratification I've gotten out of my art. Anyone familiar with my porn knows that it gets more than a little twisted, but sexual strife/fantasies are a huge theme and focus in my work anyway. Porn has always been something I was comfortable drawing, and I don't think that's going to change.
▶ Do you like criticism from others?
I almost want to just quote EK verbatim on this, because what she said was so good, but to be totally honest, no, I don't LIKE it, but I will ask for it and I will take it and I will be a good girl about it because yes, I do need it. And I do need to improve. And that's the only way.
